Barriers to Critical Thinking
Two Barriers to Critical Thinking that strongly influence me through my Critical Thinking are Enculturation and Emotional Influences.
According to the dictionary Enculturation is the gradual acquisition of the characteristics and norms of a culture or group by a person, another culture. Enculturation is the influence that culture has instilled upon any individual towards value. Enculturation shapes our ethical standards, stereotypes, worldview, habits and religious beliefs. According to the Chapter Enculturation is a process that is going on continually, even now, no matter what your age. This Barrier of Critical Thinking influences me through the way I was brought up in Nigeria. We had different ways of doing things than in America. The culture back in Nigeria influenced my religious beliefs, that I always had to go to church every week and it helped me make a strong connection with God.
